Social Media has huge potential to reach millions of young people spread across the globe. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are evolving over a period of time as strong sources to tap youth markets. Facebook having more than 300 million active users with half of them accessing it on a daily basis is a strong bet for promoting brands. Brands are able to reach youth markets by creating a successful brand image with the help of a set of platforms. These platforms include company website, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other discussion forums. Brands are able to attract young customers by initiating and interacting with lively discussions and using question and answers sessions. Brands are able to propagate their values through consistent, reliable and relevant information. They are able to win the confidence of budding age group especially those in between 18 and 24 age groups.
Brands are successful in creation of awareness of products and services in a quiet natural way rather than using brute sales methods. Even though creation of sales leads is the bottom line of any brand that is making its presence in social media, provision of right information in right time and acknowledging an individual will make him more confident and creates trust in the customer. This makes the customer or potential customer to spread the word to his circle and thus the news will spread in no time. Brands are building special applications and groups based on special needs and interests. For example, Facebook promotes many groups based on special interests. There are hundreds of Android applications which cater to diverse communities. This is a great way to attract young people based on varied social interests and hobbies. Young people like fun. So, whatever you offer them should be spiced with humor. It should be informative and make them ponder more or explore more. Overall, brands are successful in reaching youth markets by creating interest in them in a natural way but not by compelling them.
